The Hugo Trio

Alexander Hettinga (viola)

Natalie Severson (harp)

Jessie Nucho (flute)

Inspired by the words of Victor Hugo, “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent,” Carnegie Mellon University senior performance majors Alexander Hettinga (viola), Jessie Nucho (flute) and Natalie Severson (harp) joined forces in 2011 to form the Hugo Trio.

In addition to performing works by other 20th and 21st century composers, the trio has worked with Pittsburgh composer David Stock to prepare his piece, A Vanished World.

Members of the Hugo Trio have studied with Gretchen Van Hoesen, principal harp with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra; Alberto Almarza, Professor of Flute at Carnegie Mellon; and David Harding, violist with Trio Verlaine and Professor of Viola at Carnegie Mellon.

The members of the Hugo Trio are pleased and honored to have been selected as winners of the Pittsburgh Concert Society Major Auditions, and they look forward to bringing their music to wider audiences in the 2012-13 season.
