The Pittsburgh Concert Society has announced the recital dates for the winners of the Young Concert Artist auditions, which were held on Saturday January 7, 2012.
The March 11 recital will feature pianists Hanna Che and Nathaniel Chen; oboist Mark Thomas Debski; and tenor Michael Boyas.
Hanna Che, who is home-schooled, and Nathaniel Chen, who attends Marshall Middle School, are both students of Marina Lupinacci.
Mark Thomas Debski is a student of Harold Smoliar and Scott Bell, and attends Bethel Park High School.
Michael Boyas is a student of Claudia Benack, and goes to school in the Upper St. Clair School District.
The March 18 recital will feature pianists Chrstian Chiu, Lily Zhang, and Catherine Zhang; soprano Grace Callahan; and violinist Kemper Edwards.
Christian Chiu is a student of Natasha Snitkovsky and attends school in the Upper St. Clair School District.
Catherine Zhang is a student of Luz Manriquez; Lily Zhang is a student of Hanni Li. Catherine and Lily are sisters, and both attend school in the North Allegheny School District.
Violinist Kemper Edwards is home-scholed, and is a student of Rufina Yefimova.
A special prize went to violinist Kemper Edwards, who will also appear with the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Walter Morales. He will perform Symphonie espagnole by Édouard Lalo on Saturday May 12 at 7:30 pm, at the Jewish Community Center in Squirrel Hill.
The March 11 and March 18 recitals will both take place at Kresge Theatre in the College of Fine Arts building on the Carnegie Mellon campus at 2 pm. Tickets for the March 11 and March 18 recitals can be purchased or reserved online. Student tickets (grade school, middle school, high school, college) are free, and can be reserved online.
