Chaehyun "Cuna" Kim, 16, is a sophomore at Fox Chapel Area High School, and has studied violin for 12 years, currently studying with Irene Cheng. She first studied at the City Music Center Program at Duquesne. Cuna now holds the position of second violin co-principal in the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra (PYSO), and was previously in TRYPO after being a member of Intrada for one year, then Symphonette for two years, and finally YPO for one year.
Through the Youth Chamber Connection (YC2) Program, Cuna is part of the Cygnus Quartet. She also has been selected as concertmaster of PMEA Districts and District Honors orchestras numerous times. She attended the six-week long Interlochen Summer Music Camp for orchestral performance in 2017, as a member of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra. While at Interlochen, Cuna had the privilege of working with many great musicians.
Previously, Cuna was chosen twice to be a finalist in the Pittsburgh Philharmonic Concerto Competition, and recently was named a finalist in the Duquesne Young Artists National Concerto Competition. She was a winner of the Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra Young Artists Concerto Competition and will perform with them on March 24th. Also she will play at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, having been chosen as a first place winner in the American Protégé International Concerto Competition.
