PCS Major Auditions Winner 1981. Max Jazz Recording Artist David Budway is one of the most versatile pianists on the New York music scene today. Deeply rooted in many styles, his masterful command for Modern Jazz vocabulary has propelled him into the midst of present day jazz pioneers.

Mr. Budway studied Classical Piano extensively with Ruth Slenczynska, Dr. Carole Riley, CDP, and Gerald Jennings. He has performed Master Classes with Artur Balsam, Warren Jones, Eugene List and Mary Lou Krosnick. In Pittsburgh he earned his Masters Degree in Classical Piano at Duquesne University, where he later taught Jazz and Classical piano for 15 years. He studied Jazz Composition and Arranging with Dr. John Wilson.

In 1992, Mr. Budway made his classical debut as soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with them on many occasions including a special performance with Marvin Hamlisch. Other performances include Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and The Hollywood Bowl with Liza Minnelli. Recording credits include the entire Bach Sonatas for Flute and Piano with Hubert Laws. Other recording credits include Branford Marsalis, Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Jimmy Heath, Christiane Noll, and Eric Leeds. Mr. Budway has performed with Wynton Marsalis, Dizzy Gillespie, Michael Brecker, Stanley Turrentine, Marlena Shaw, Christiane Noll, Ravi Coltrane, Louie Bellson, Mark Murphy, Joe Pass, Roger Humphries, Dave Liebman and The Mingus Big Band. He has toured extensively with Jeff "Tain" Watts, Regina Carter and collaborated as special accompanist / vocalist for Liza Minnelli.
