Devin is currently a senior at Chartiers Valley High School and has been studying viola under Pittsburgh Symphony member Marylene Gingras-Roy for slightly over a year. He recently switched from violin to viola and now plays viola in his school orchestra, the Montgomery String Quartet, and the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra. Devin has held leadership positions in many ensembles including Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra, Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Youth Chamber Connection. This past summer, Devin participated in the National Youth Orchestra of the United States, where he worked with world-renowned musicians such as Emanuel Ax, Christoph Eschenbach, Denis Matsuev, and Valery Gergiev, and performed at Carnegie Hall as well as in Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Montpellier, and Prague. Though he enjoys playing in youth orchestras, Devin's real passion lies within the field of chamber music as his dream career is to one day be a member of a professional string quartet.
Aside from classical music, Devin is extremely involved in musical theatre. Devin was awarded the Gene Kelly Award for Best Actor for his role as Jean Valjean in his high school's production of Les Miserables. From there, he competed at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards on Broadway, where he was one of the four male finalists. Alongside his musical endeavors, Devin is very academically inclined and has been given awards including the Yale Book Club Award and a National Merit Scholarship Program Commendation. Though he has little free time, Devin also enjoys drawing/painting, photography, filmography, travelling, and watching the Big Bang Theory. Devin plans on pursuing music performance at a conservatory this fall; however, he would like to further his academic interests in physics and engineering as well. Devin considers himself lucky to be able to share the gift of music everyday for the rest of his life.
