Evan Curatolo, flute and Arilyn Mitchell, harp

Ensemble

Evan Curatolo has been appointed Flute & Piccolo with the West Point Band, premier band of the United States Military Academy, in August 2024. Evan also holds regular substitute
positions with the New World Symphony and the Fox Valley Orchestra for their 2024-25 seasons. Aside from his recent appointment with the West Point Band, Evan was also the
recent runner-up for the United States Army Field Band Flute & Piccolo vacancy.

Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Evan graduated with his Master of Music in Flute Performance at the Carnegie Mellon School of Music, where he studied under Lorna McGhee, Principal Flute of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. During his time at Carnegie Mellon, Evan frequently performed with the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic in both principal and supporting roles.
Additionally, with his flute and harp duo, Evan was selected as one of the few winners of the 2024 Pittsburgh Concert Society Major Artist Competition by audition in April 2024.

Previously, Evan pursued and completed his Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance at the esteemed Eastman School of Music, where he studied under Bonita Boyd, former Principal
Flute of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. At Eastman, Evan collaborated on a regular basis with some of the finest musicians and faculty from around the globe as part of the
illustrious Eastman Flute Studio. Additionally, he frequently performed with two of the nation’s most acclaimed collegiate ensembles, the Eastman Philharmonia and the Eastman Wind
Ensemble. Evan can also be heard on the Eastman Wind Ensemble album Brightening Air, featuring original compositions by Eastman Professor of Composition David Liptak, published in 2022.

Arilyn Mitchel is a young professional concert harpist studying at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Music under Gretchen van Hoesen. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Humanities and Art with a focus in music performance and psychology, in anticipation of pursuing further education in music therapy. Recent highlights of her academic career include being selected alongside Evan Curatolo as one of the few winners of the 2024 Pittsburgh Concert Society Major Artist Competition by audition in April 2024 as a harp and flute duo.

For the last ten years, she has worked in orchestras across the United States. In addition, she has toured internationally with Benjamin Zander and the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra multiple times. Through these various musical opportunities, she has performed in halls worldwide including Symphony Hall (Boston), the Musikverein (Vienna), the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), and the Centro Cultural Kirschner (Buenos Aires). Recent highlights of her orchestral work include working with James Blachly for a performance of the Negro Folk Symphony and the premiere of a variety of student works, both with the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic.
