Hannah Piston is a 17 year old, high academic honors student at Hickory High School in Hermitage, PA. She began harp lessons at the age of 7 with Gretchen van Hoesen, principal harpist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. In 2013, Hannah placed first in the String Division of the Duquesne Young Artists’ National Competition, and first in the Mid Atlantic Harp Scholarship Competition. In 2009, she took 2nd place in her division in the Duquesne Young Artists’ Competition, and 3rd place that same year in Salt Lake City, Utah at the American Harp Society’s National Competition. In 2010, Hannah performed the Dittersdorf Concerto as the guest solo artist for the Greenville Symphony Orchestra. She is currently in her fourth year as a harpist for the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra, and toured Italy in with the orchestra in 2011.
