J. Oliver Choo

Piano

J. Oliver Choo, age 16, is a junior at Fox Chapel Area High School and studies piano with Marina Lupinacci. He received this same PCS honor in 2015 as a soloist. In 2012, he won the gold medal at the World Piano Competition in its level 9 concerto division, and performed with the World Festival Orchestra at Aronoff Hall in Cincinnati. He also won first prize in PMEA’s Composition Contests in 2012, 2013, and 2015. In 2017, J. Oliver won first place in the Lois Streator Competition and was invited to perform at Youngstown State University.

In recent summers, he has had the honor and privilege of participating in Tanglewood’s Young Artists Piano Program (2016) and Young Artists Orchestra (2017) as a violinist. Outside of school, J. Oliver spends most of his time on the national circuit for public forum debate.
