José Arión Linarez

Bassoon

Born in Barquisimeto, Venezuela in 1973, José Arión Linarez began his musical studies when he was 14 at the Blanca Estrella de Mescoli Music School. He then moved to Caracas to continue his musical studies at the Simon Bolivar Conservatory. Currently he is a senior at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where he studies with Nancy Goeres, principal bassoonist of The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. In 1993 he was awarded a music scholarship by the foundation Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho in support of his music studies in the United States; he was also the recipient of a music scholarship to attend the Aspen Music Festival in 1996. He currently serves as second bassoonist with the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra.
