Joseph Breslau

Baritone

Joseph Breslau (He/Him) is a baritone in his second year in the Vocal Arts Program at Bard College studying with Mr. Richard Cox, and aims to balance his focus on opera, new music, and German Lieder performance. Having grown up in Pittsburgh, it was performances in Kresge Hall that ultimately led him on the path of a performer. Joseph has sung the roles of Papageno, Aeneas, Duncan, Sid, and Jupiter from Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Ernest Bloch’s Macbeth, Britten’s Albert Herring, and Offenbach’s Orphée aux enfers. Joseph performed as a soloist with the Case Western Reserve University Baroque Ensemble as well as the Bard Conservatory Baroque Ensemble in performances of music by Purcell, A. Gabrieli, L. de Sayve, and J. S. Bach. Joseph has premiered a multitude of new pieces by composers from the Cleveland Institute of Music and Bard College, including Arseny Gusev’s 5 Sunset Songs, Yoav Sadeh’s Loneliness: A monodrama for soloist and ensemble, Wyland Stephenson’s July 28th, 1533, and Noah Hertzman’s song Birches.

« Joseph Breslau is the 2024 recipient of the Homer Wickline and Conrad Seaman’s memorial grant of The Pittsburgh Foundation. »
