Violinist Marissa Weston pursues a multifaceted career in performance, recording, and education with the vision of creating community through music where individuals are known and experience belonging. Weston's extensive education includes a master's degree from Carnegie Mellon University and an undergraduate degree from the prestigious Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She is currently a student of Christopher Wu, first violinist in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and has studied with soloist Grigory Kalinovsky. Weston recently performed as a soloist with the Carnegie Mellon University Contemporary Ensemble and enjoys leading the CMU Philharmonic as concertmaster. Weston’s love of orchestra and its ability to build and reflect community has shaped her aspirations as an orchestral musician, and she has performed with countless orchestras such as the New World Symphony and West Virginia Symphony Orchestra. She has spent summers at the Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival and the National Repertory Orchestra. Weston enjoys chamber music for its ability to creatively build space and relationships and recently performed in collaboration with members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. A member of the artist collective Albion West and a lover of storytelling through music, she has recorded extensively, improvising and composing for two singer-songwriter albums. She loves to share her passion for music through teaching and received her pedagogy training under Dr. Brenner at the Indiana University String Academy. Marissa also loves sports and the outdoors and enjoys every chance she gets to spend time with family and friends!
