Mengyi Yang, winner of the 2012 Carnegie Mellon Concerto Competition, will be featured as soloist with the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic during the 2012-2013 academic year.
Ms. Yang has given solo and chamber performances both in the United States and China. She has participated in the International Keyboard Institute Festival as well as master classes with Byron Janis, Arie Vardi, Ilana Vered and Akiko Ebi. Ms. Yang is an elected member of the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society and she works as a teaching assistant in solfege at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Music and as a piano instructor at Carnegie Mellon’s Preparatory School.
Ms. Yang is a studio accompanist for instrumentalists and vocalists and has accompanied the examination of Royal Academy Dance Certification.
Born in China, Ms. Yang began her piano lessons at the age of three. In 1996, she became a student of Shuxing Zheng, the former Chair of the Piano Department in Shanghai Conservatory. Ms. Yang received her Bachelor Degree from Tongji University, Shanghai, studying with Minduo Li and Huan Qi. She received her Master of Music degree from Carnegie Mellon University where she studied with Enrique Graf and Ralph Zitterbart, and she will attend the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music to pursue her Artist Diploma, studying with Emile Naoumoff.
