Michael Tsang


Michael Tsang, age 21, began his piano studies in Pittsburgh with Marina Lupinacci. His passion for music developed with numerous performances and competitions since age 5. Michael won top prizes in the Bartok-Kabalevsky-Prokofiev International Competition, International Young Artists Competition in Washington DC, Ithaca Piano Competition, Long Island Conservatory International Competition, and Duquesne Young Artists Competition for all age categories. He was a winner of the Pittsburgh Concert Society Young Artists Competition in 2005.

Michael was the 1st place winner in the Senior & Junior Divisions of the MTNA and represented Pennsylvania in the East Division competitions. In 2011, he appeared as a soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra for its outreach education programs, and he performed as a soloist with the Butler Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Philharmonic Orchestra, and Ithaca College Symphony. Michael played in master classes conducted by Gygory Sandor, Emmanuel Ax, Lang Lang, and Niklas Sivelov. He was the pianist for the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra for 4 years.

Michael is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Music degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studies with Paul Schenly and Kathryn Brown. Michael was awarded the 2014 Presser Scholar Award and the William Kurzban Prize for piano by CIM.
