Michal Hajlasz, pianoMichal Hajlasz (12 years old) is an 8th grader at Pittsburgh Sterrett Middle School. He started playing the piano when he was six years old and studies with Jeffry Harris at the Carnegie Mellon University Music Preparatory School. When he was 9 years old, he won first place in the Pittsburgh Piano Teachers Association Piano Competition (2013) in the 4th-6th grade category and second place in the Early Advanced Solo Performance category in 2015. Michal also won second place in the Duquesne Young Artists National Competition in 2014. Additionally, he has played for the Steinway Society Young Artists program and was accepted to play in Heinz Hall Lobby in June 2016. Besides playing piano, Michal also enjoys science and math. He accelerated first grade and multiple math classes and received an award for the best mathematics project for the middle school regional category of the PJAS science competition (2015). He also loves to read and write in his spare time and is an active member of the Taylor Allderdice High School Science Bowl Club.
