Rachel Smoliar

Violin

Rachel Smoliar is completing her undergraduate studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music studying with William Preucil and Stephen Rose.  Miss Smoliar performed the Bach Double Violin Concerto with the Pittsburgh Symphony as well as Sarasate’s Introduction and Tarantella. She soloed several times with the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra and with the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra as a winner of their Concerto Competition.

Miss Smoliar placed second in the Helen Clay Frick Competition in 2003 and 2004. In 2001 she won the Pittsburgh Concert Society’s Young Artists auditions both as a solo violinist and as first violinist of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Quartet. She won first place in the chamber music division of Duquesne Young Artists Competition and was a WDED-FM Musical Teen.

Miss Smoliar served as Concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra and of City Music Center Chamber Orchestra, as well as Assistant Concertmaster of the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra. She is currently a member of the first violin section of the Canton Symphony.

Miss Smoliar has attended the National Repertory Orchestra, the Tanglewood Music Festival, Kent/ Blossom Music Festival, Encore School for Strings studying with Linda Cerone, and Meadowmount School of Music studying with Stephen Shipps.
