Tartan Quartet | Pittsburgh Concert Society

Tartan Quartet

Ensemble

The Tartan String Quartet consists of Andrew Gray and Forest Ma on Violin, Kai Su on Viola and Soobee Kim on Cello. We aspire to bring our music to the professional stage and to our communities. We have worked under the mentorship of prominent chamber music pedagogues such as David Harding, Dimidri Papadimitriou, Angela Park, the Kronos Quartet, and the Ying Quartet.

We were awarded First Prize at the 2023 and 2024 Carnegie Mellon University Chamber Music Competition, and have also been invited for live broadcast on the WQED radio station. In 2023 we performed for a Kronos Quartet masterclass as part of the “50 for the Future” project, featuring 21st-century string quartet music from around the world. In 2024, we participated in a masterclass with the Ying Quartet.

Outside of our personal endeavors as an emerging Quartet, we are equally dedicated to supporting and working with our peers at Carnegie Mellon University in the form of performing and recording student composition works.
