Xiu-Ru Liu

Mezzo Soprano

Mezzo-soprano Xiu-Ru Liu graduated with distinction from the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing in 1980, taught there and performed in China until 1986.

In 1981, Beverly Sills called Ms. Liu a true mezzo and encouraged her to come to the USA to further her studies.

In 1986, Xiu-Ru Liu was awarded a full scholarship by the Eastman School of Music, where she received her Master¹s Degree and Performance Certificate in 1990.

Her professional performances included the principal alto roles in "Rigoletto", "Un Ballo in Maschera", "Il Trovatore," "Die Zauberflôte," and "Das Rheingold." She just finished her tour as Suzuki in Puccini's "Madame Butterfly" in late 1997.

Her forthcoming performances in Pittsburgh include the Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Mozart's Requiem.
