Jason Lu, age 16, is currently a sophomore at Upper Saint Clair High School. Jason began playing the piano at the age of 7. From 2016 to 2020, Jason received piano and music theory instructions from Natasha Snitkovsky. In March of 2017, Jason won the Solo Artist Award in the Duquesne Young Artists National Competition, for which he performed in honor recital at the PNC Recital Hall, Pittsburgh. In 2019, Jason won 2nd place in the Great Composer Competition of the International Music Competition (Best Mendelssohn Performance), and also won the 1st place in the Youth A Category of Pittsburgh International Piano Competition, for which he performed in the PIPC winners’ recital at Carnegie Hall, New York City. Since 2020, Jason studies piano at Carnegie Mellon University’s Music Preparatory School with Luz Manriquez. In Oct of 2020, Jason won the Melanie Schmidt Award of Excellence in the Steinway Society of Western Pennsylvania and performed in SSWPA’s honor recital. This year, Jason is proud to be a winner of the PCS’ 2021 Young Artists Competition. In addition, he actively participates in his high school’s performing arts programs including the jazz lab ensemble and marching band. As part of his community services, Jason tutors piano to elementary-age students.
