Jiyeon Lee

Piano

Jiyeon Lee, from Seoul, South Korea, is a versatile pianist, teacher and performer. She has had extensive experience in South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States working with various instrumentalists and singers including both students and professionals alike. While studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London, she performed a Fauré song recital as a celebration of the Fauré Song Book Vol.1 (Peter’s Edition) alongside French music specialist Roy Howat. She has also performed in most of the major recital venues in Seoul including a performance of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.1, Op.11 with Seoul Musicali Orchestra in Young-San Art Hall and a duo concert in Mozart Hall. Most recently, she was a prizewinner in the V ODIN International Music Online Competition and the 2020 Pittsburgh Concert Society’s Major Auditions.

Jiyeon was on the faculty as an accompanist at Soong-Sil University Academy in South Korea and worked as an official accompanist for ‘Song-Pa Boys and Girls Choir,’ 'Air flute Ensemble,' 'Chung-Ang University Flute Ensemble,' ‘Peniel Vocal Ensemble,’ and ‘Jung- Kun Clarinet Studio.’ Also, she was in charge of accompanying the 'Seongbuk-Gu Arirang Children's Song Contest.' She has worked as repetiteur on several opera productions in Seoul, including Kunyoung Lee’s Spring, Spring at Daejeon Opera. As a doctoral student at West Virginia University, she was awarded a graduate assistantship to accompany the WVU choirs and musical theatre department. She has also accompanied WVU’s musical theatre group “New World Ensemble” led by Professor General Hambrick since 2016.

Jiyeon received her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Chung-Ang University, and her Master of Music in Collaborative Piano from Sung-Shin Women’s University, South Korea. She also completed the Master of Arts in Piano Accompaniment Performance program at the Royal Academy of Music in London where she studied with Ian Brown and John Reid. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Collaborative Piano from West Virginia University where she studied with Dr. Lucy Mauro.
