Lucas Barkley is a current Doctor of Musical Arts student in collaborative piano at West Virginia University, where he studies with Dr. Lucy Mauro and is a graduate assistant in the opera department. Recently he has served as music director and pianist for Duquesne University Opera Theater's 2022 productions of The Medium and A Hand of Bridge, and as music director for WVU's mainstage production of Sweet Charity. He also performed Schubert's Winterreise with baritone Alan Cline at WVU in spring 2022.
Previously, Lucas was a freelance pianist, vocal coach, and music director in the New York City/New Jersey area, where he was on staff at Mannes College, Rutgers University, and Rider University, and worked with numerous local opera companies (Dell'Arte Opera, New York Lyric Opera, Bohème Opera, Manhattan Opera Studio, Utopia Opera, Opera Angelo, etc). In summer 2022 he will serve on the music staff of Pittsburgh Festival Opera. He is also organist at St. Matthew Parish, Pittsburgh. Lucas holds a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from Duquesne University and a Master of Music in collaborative piano from Carnegie Mellon University. He lives in Morgantown, WV with his wife and three children.
