Serena Luo, 17, is an eleventh grader at Upper Saint Clair High School. She has been playing the piano for ten years and is studying with Professor Hanna Li at the Carnegie Mellon University Music Preparatory School. Serena won the First Prize in the 2017 Inaugural Pittsburgh International Piano Competition in the 16-18 age division. She plays piano at a retirement home weekly. Besides music, she also enjoys painting, fencing and playing tennis.
She competes in math competitions such as the American Regions Mathematics Competition, the Pennsylvania Mathematics League and math competitions at Carnegie Mellon University and Princeton University¨ as well as the Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Science Bowl.
